"I find there is nothing as fun and therapeutic as getting my hands in the clay."

We often start a new sculpture by finding inspiration which can come from many places including past and present. This example shows me creating a sketch to work from. Drawing out your ideas gives you a good base to begin your project.

Next, work begins by creating an armature. Small projects can be solid clay while others can be more elaborate in their construction. In the example to the right, the student shaped a block of styrofoam over a metal armature and then applied the clay. This worked well for this particular piece.

Forming and shaping begins to draw on the student's own talents as well as one-on-one assistance to apply correct anatomy when needed. Students are always encouraged to express their own style.

Graduation Day!

Getting ready for the bronze foundry is an exciting moment for every student. This day also comes with much direction and encouragement prior to seeing your artwork finished in bronze.

Bronze Sculpture Process

I love my Tuesday Sculpting Class!!! It has been such a joy to explore a new medium! In your class you have helped me to see the vision in my mind become a reality in clay!!! It is my hope that with your teaching skills & patience I will reach my goal of having a piece of art worthy to go to the foundry to become a beautiful bronze work of art, and more importantly to become a material memory of a fantastically fun class with a great teacher!!
Thank you for being a special teacher & giving me hope for the foundry!!!
