We often start a new sculpture
by finding inspiration which can
come from many places including
past and present. This example
shows me creating a sketch to
work from. Drawing out your
ideas gives you a good base to
begin your project. |

Next, work begins by
creating an armature. Small
projects can be solid clay while
others can be more elaborate
in their construction. In the example to the
right, the student shaped a
block of styrofoam over a metal
armature and then applied the
clay. This worked well for this
particular piece. |

Forming and shaping begins to
draw on the student's own talents
as well as one-on-one assistance
to apply correct anatomy when
needed. Students are always
encouraged to express their own
style. |

Getting ready for the bronze
foundry is an exciting moment
for every student. This day also
comes with much direction and
encouragement prior to seeing
your artwork finished in bronze. |

I love my Tuesday Sculpting
Class!!! It has been such a joy
to explore a new medium! In your
class you have helped me to see
the vision in my mind become a
reality in clay!!! It is my hope
that with your teaching skills &
patience I will reach my goal of
having a piece of art worthy to
go to the foundry to become a
beautiful bronze work of art,
and more importantly to become a
material memory of a
fantastically fun class with a
great teacher!!
Thank you for being a special teacher & giving me hope
for the foundry!!!
